In most parts of sub-Saharan Africa, women’s roles are often limited to that of housewives, with little access to education or opportunities to participate in activities outside of the home. This lack of education and skills often leads to their inadequacy in contributing significantly to society beyond the kitchen. Unfortunately, this is a major factor that contributes to poverty and domestic violence, particularly in Liberia, where households often struggle to find happiness when both partners are not actively involved in providing for the family.

Although the 21st century has brought greater freedom and power for women, they are still significantly disadvantaged compared to men in most aspects of life, particularly in access to education, healthcare, capital, and decision-making positions in politics and business. Specific challenges faced by women include illiteracy, poverty, and being left to care for children without support after being impregnated by men. These factors have kept women in disadvantaged positions in all aspects of their lives.

A Liberian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jallah Coopers, have taken up the challenge of helping those in need as their life mission. Although they reside in Spokane, Washington, USA, their passion for Liberia has never waned. During a visit to their homeland, they were deeply moved by the struggles faced by single mothers and vulnerable children who lacked food and basic necessities. As a result, they established the Dawufon Foundation to address these issues. The foundation has placed great emphasis on empowering women through career and entrepreneurial development. By providing women with the necessary tools and resources, DFON aims to break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage and enable women to fully participate in society.

We believe that together, we can create a world where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed and thrive. By donating to the Dawufon Foundation, you are not only investing in the lives of individuals but also in the future of Liberia.
